Project Report

The MS in ECE Project Report option is only available to students in the ECE PhD program. Under this option, students have the opportunity to use more research credit toward their MS (a total of 36 units of 18-990) in exchange for completion of a MS project report.

Procedures

In order to pursue the MS in ECE Project Report option, students must complete the Request for MS form, including the MS title and name of a second reader (who must be an ECE faculty member). Please submit the completed form with all needed endorsements to the appropriate PhD academic program advisor:

Pittsburgh-based students and dual-degree programs

Once the student's request has been approved, they will be responsible for picking up the MS-related paperwork, obtaining necessary endorsements of the faculty advisor and second reader, and returning the paperwork to the appropriate PhD academic advisor (Nathan or Brittany). Once the report has been approved by the student's advisor and second reader, the student must send the PhD academic advisor an electronic copy of the report.

Diploma

Students earning the MS degree along the way to the PhD degree can expect to receive their diploma in one of the following scenarios:

  • If earning the MS degree in the spring semester of a given academic year, the student may participate in ECE's May commencement ceremony to receive their diploma in-person.  Participation in the commencement ceremony is optional, and the student's diploma not distributed at the commencement ceremony will be mailed to them shortly after.
  • If earning the MS degree in the summer or fall semester of a given academic year, the student will be mailed their diploma to the diploma delivery address provided in SIO.
