Rajkumar comments on public transit and minority involvement
Raj Rajkumar spoke with The New York Times about Phoenix’s rail extension project and minority protests. Many low-income Hispanic and black community members living in South Phoenix are protesting the reduction of car traffic from four to two lanes. Rajkumar says that many low-income minority residents cannot afford their own cars and rely on public transit to get to interviews and jobs. He says, “Assuming that local communities will sign on [to projects] can turn out to be dramatically wrong,” and “things [will] go downhill very quickly.” Read the article.
