Bio

Amrit Pandey is Special Faculty in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department with a courtesy appointment in the Engineering and Public Policy Department. He pioneered the development of circuit-theoretic power system simulation and optimization framework during his doctoral work at Carnegie Mellon (graduated 2019), which culminated in the development of a new simulation engine: Simulation of Unified Grid Analysis and Renewables (SUGAR). He has published numerous papers in the field of power systems simulation and optimization, including a best paper award-winning submission on SUGAR at the IEEE PES General Meeting in 2017. Prior to joining Carnegie Mellon University, he helped commercialize SUGAR technology at Pearl Street Technology. Amrit's present research interest lies in developing methods and algorithms to make the electric grid more efficient, reliable, and secure while decreasing its reliance on carbon-intensive resources. He is interested in working on electric grid challenges across the globe, including those that are rapidly evolving, such as those in Asian and African countries.
