Hsu Receives Google Machine Learning and Systems Junior Faculty Award
Olivia Hsu, assistant professor of electrical and computer engineering at Carnegie Mellon University, has received the 2nd Annual Google ML and Systems Junior Faculty Award, which recognizes professors who are leading the analysis, design, and implementation of efficient, scalable, secure, and trustworthy computing systems. The award provides $100,000 in unrestricted funding to early-career assistant professors working at the intersection of machine learning and computing infrastructure.
Hsu’s research lies at the intersection of compilers and computer architecture, spanning programming languages to digital VLSI. She develops hardware–software systems for efficiently executing complex, data-dependent workloads on next-generation hardware architectures. Her recent work includes sparse tensor compilation, compilation and mapping for heterogeneous domain-specific accelerators, dataflow abstractions for hardware, and reconfigurable spatial architectures.
“I’m honored to receive the Google Cloud ML Systems Junior Faculty Award,” says Hsu. “This recognition will help advance our research, while creating new opportunities for our students to explore challenging problems and develop innovative solutions. I’m grateful for the support and excited about the possibilities this award opens for our work.”
